2.5 Using Terminal Keys to Move the Cursor

The cursor is moved by both you (via the keyboard) and the C/Base software. In this section, moving the cursor within a form is demonstrated on the entry form currently displayed.

Press the QUERY key <F2>. The cursor moves to the first position of the first field, i.e., the field labeled Magazine.

Press each of the following keys in turn and observe the resultant activity:

Key- Action

Right Arrow - Cursor moves one position right.

Left Arrow - Cursor moves one position left.

Tab - Cursor moves to the next field.

Home - Cursor moves to the first position of the first field.

Down Arrow - Cursor moves to the next field.

Up Arrow - Cursor moves back to the first position of previous field.

Tab - Cursor moves to the next field.

Right Arrow - Press 3 times and observe movement of cursor.

Up Arrow - Cursor moves to the first position of current field.

RETURN - Cursor moves to the next field.

Line Feed - Cursor moves to the next field.

Now that you are acquainted with moving the cursor on a form, move it to the field labeled Title. Type This is a long title, but then do not exit from the field, since the entry in this field will be used to demonstrate how to correct what has been entered.

To change this field to say This is the title, use the Left Arrow key to move the cursor to the letter a. Type the title, and then press the Space Bar to space over the letters from the original entry that should be deleted.

Next, we will explore the function keys. If you have difficulty at any time during the course of this C/Base Tutorial Manual, you may invoke the HELP function simply by pressing the GOLD key <F1> and then the H key. Pertinent instructions are displayed, and you may return at any time to the screen which was displayed at the time you asked for help.
