The best way to QUERY a particular account from this screen is to type either the account number or the descriptive title of the account. The Debit Account and Balance Sheet Account fields can be used if you wish to QUERY a series of accounts. For example, if you want to QUERY all the accounts with credit balances, type no in the Debit Account field. Once the search pattern has been entered, select the FIND FIRST button <F3>.

The QUERY and FIND functions search for records in the file by starting at the beginning of the file and proceeding to the end of the file. When the QUERY button <F2> is selected the first record in the file that matches the search pattern is being queried. When the FIND NEXT button <F3> is selected the next record in the file that matches the search pattern is displayed.

The QUERY function can be made to start its search with the last matching record by selecting pressing the FIND LAST button (GOLD <F1> before choosing QUERY <F2>). This means that the last record in the file that matches the search pattern is queried.

The direction of the FIND function's search can also be reversed if the GOLD <F1> is selected just before FIND <F3>, or by pressing the FIND PREVIOUS button. As was explained above, each time FIND NEXT button <F3> is pressed, the next record in the file that matches the search pattern is displayed. By selecting GOLD <F1> before selecting FIND <F3>, or by pressing the FIND PREVIOUS button, the direction of the search is reversed and the previous matching record is displayed. The GOLD <F1> FIND <F3> options and the FIND <F3> option can be used to move back and forth in the file.
