While in query mode, enter the search pattern desired and then select the FIND FIRST button or press <F3>. If the search pattern requests more than one general journal entry, select the FIND NEXT button or press <F3> to continue the query and find the next record in the search pattern.

Querying a detail line on the general journal screen requires that you first display the header or upper part of the screen belonging to the detail line you wish to query. Once the header is displayed, move to the detail screen by selecting the NEXT button or pressing <F7>. Put the screen in query mode by selecting the QUERY button or pressing <F2>.

While in the query mode, enter the search pattern desired and then select the FIND FIRST button or press <F3>. As explained before, selecting the FIND NEXT button or pressing <F3> shows successive matching records.

The QUERY and FIND functions search for records in the file by starting at the beginning of the file and proceeding to the end of the file. When the FIND FIRST button <F3> is selected the first record in the file that matches the search pattern is being queried. When the FIND NEXT button <F3> is selected the next record in the file that matches the search pattern is displayed.

The QUERY function can be made to start its search with the last matching record by selecting GOLD <F1> before selecting the QUERY button <F2>, or by pressing the FIND LAST button. This means that the last record in the file that matches the search pattern is queried.

The direction of the FIND function's search can also be reversed if GOLD <F1> is selected just before selecting the FIND button <F3>,or by pressing the FIND PREVIOUS button. As was explained above, each time the FIND NEXT button <F3> is selected, the next record in the file that matches the search pattern is displayed. By selecting GOLD <F1> before selecting the FIND button <F3>, or by pressing the FIND PREVIOUS button, the direction of the search is reversed and the previous matching record is displayed. The GOLD <F1> FIND <F3> option and the FIND <F3> option can be used to move back and forth in the file.
