28.2.6 Correcting Input Mistakes

When form complains about an invalid entry, the entry must be corrected before you can exit the field. Correcting a field entry can be done in two ways: you can re-type the contents of the field, or you can edit the contents to make them valid.

There are several keys that can be used to edit the contents of the field. The LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys move the cursor within the field. The BACKSPACE key moves the cursor one position to the left and blanks the charater at that position. In the screen picture fragment shown below, the symbol represents the cursor positioned over the digit 7.

Pressing the BACKSPACE key replaces the 7 before the cursor with a blank, and moves the cursor left one position.

The INSERT CHARACTER and DELETE CHARACTER keys can also be used to edit a field. The INSERT CHARACTER key shifts all characters under and to the right of the cursor, one position to the right. In the screen picture fragment shown below, the symbol represents the cursor positioned over the digit 7.
