4.6.1.3 Primary Key Ordering

The second field from the screen in Section in 4.6.1 is Primary Key Ordering. The primary key of a record determines where a record is physically stored in the RMSfile. Each File Access Method has its own unique value for this field. They are:

File Access Method Primary Key Ordering

indexed btree

hashed random

sequential none

If the field is blank when the RETURN key is pressed, the appropriate default value (which is determined by the File Access Method) is entered. If the field is non-blank when the field is exited, the field value must be an abbreviation of the valid Primary Key Ordering. The full Primary Key Ordering is displayed after you exit the field.
