FORMEDIT

NAME

formedit - create or maintain logical formfiles

SYNOPSIS

formedit [-vx] [ lformfile ]

formedit -c [-evx] [ -C comment ] [ -D directory ] [ lformfile ]

DESCRIPTION

Formedit creates or modifies the logical formfiles used by form. Lformfile specifies the name of the logical formfile. The logical formfile contains a sequence of data entry forms.

When formedit is invoked with the -c flag on a logical formfile, the formfile is created if it does not already exist. If the create (-c) flag is omitted, the existing logical formfile lformfile is modified.

The following flags and arguments apply to formedit:

-c Creates the logical formfile lformfile. An entry in the formfile catalog cannot already exist for lformfile. To create the formfile, formdef is invoked. Once the formfile has been created, an entry for lformfile is added to the formfile catalog. If a file exists in the named directory that matches the logical formfile name, or the name is too long for a file entry, a unique name is generated for the formfile's pathname.

The -e, -C and -D flags apply only when a formfile is initially being created.

-e Enters expert mode by displaying a parameter form and allows input of arguments that are available with the formedit command. This flag only applies when the create (-c) flag has been specified with a logical formfile that does not already exist. The parameter form accepts input in the same manner as form(C-1).

-v Displays progress information on standard output.

-x Displays on standard output the commands run by formedit.

-C comment

Supplies the description of lformfile that is stored with the logical formfile entry. If the -C flag is specified, comment is required and must be quoted if embedded with blanks, tabs or newlines. The -C flag applies only when formedit is invoked with the create (-c) flag. If the -C flag is omitted, the description for the logical formfile entry is set to null.

-D directory

Names the directory to contain the new formfile. The formfile directory must be an absolute pathname or a pathname relative to the database's home directory. If the formfile directory is not defined, formedit uses the directory scr relative to the database's home directory.

If the lformfile argument is omitted, a parameter form is displayed requesting the name of the logical formfile. This form accepts input in the same manner as form(C-1).
