Diagram:

The diagram below shows the basic connection.

connection 1: mobile devices to conetic.com SSL web server
connection 2: conetic web server --> connected to the clients C/Books database server.

The key to connection 2 is to secure the connection between the two machines via ip authentication. Locking down all ports except the defined port that uses the C/Base Web Database proxy Server; and the assigned ip address. Once this is done -- the only traffic allowed will be C/Base proxy process requests.

During the login process the mobile user is asked for a

  • password
  • gateway

Once the connection request is made the Conetic proxy web server takes the request, and redirects the login request using the "gateway" value -- to the customer's database server. At which time -- the login validation is perfomred. If successful, a session record is written to the csutomer's server -- and is used for tracking. From here on all processing is performed on the customer's server, and the Conetic proxy web server is just relaying the information back to the mobile device in a secure SSL session.

All application code and data is on the customer's C/Books Data Server. Nothing other than the ip address and port of your proxy server is stored on Conetic Software's web server.

System Requirements :

  • Version 5.6 of C/Base and C/Books or greater
  • Must have be licensed for Web Database Proxy
  • Must request access to our web proxy -- and provide a port # assigned to the web database proxy server; and static ip address.

Frequently asked questions :

Is there a limit to the number of mobile users?
A: No. However, the more the users - the slower the system will process.

Can I access this application from a pc or mac?
A: Yes ... and no. Access is controlled by your login, password and serial number of your phone. The serial number verification is only for iPhones. The iPhone serial verification restricts access from your specific iphone; for your assigned login and password. But, if your login is NOT locked to an iPhone you will be able to use a pc, mac, or any other mobile device. Note: it is recommended that you use the safri browser.

If I want to modify the application code -- where is the code?
A: all application code is on the customer's server. Typically in the database home directory/vrpt

Can I restrict access to specific menu options?
A: Yes. When creating a login for a user -- you will have the ability to pick which menu options the user can run. For example: you can restrict the access of an outside sale person access to "Customer Search" records only. In addition, we have had csutomer's modify the search program to restrict to ONLY the salesman's accounts.

Is cookie support needed?
A: Yes .. cookies makes life easier for the user. it remembers your login and gateway -- thus only requiring the user to input the password.

Can the inactive timer automatic logout "time amount" be changed?
A: Yes. In the event you wish to change this -- please contact technical support..
